Work Is Miserable, But It Doesn’t Need To Be
Gallup’s State of the Global Workplace report for 2022 states “60% of people are emotionally detached at work and 19% are miserable.” That means almost two-thirds of workers are not performing as well as they could or should and for almost one-fifth, work is miserable. Why is this happening? How is this OK? And why are we so surprised so many people are resigning their job and looking for better options right now?
Plenty of excuses have been given over the years regarding the lack of engagement, mostly based on the lack of ethics, loyalty and toughness of younger workers. However, as the Gallup research indicates, the real reason is there’s a lack of focus on people in the workplace.
